Join Us For a Functional Sisterhood

Throughout our lives, we go through different transitions, challenges and experiences that prompt us to put emphasis on improving and analyzing specific aspects of who we are. It was not until I moved to New York in 2006 and began to incorporate myself into Afrikan-centered cultural circles that I began to get unadulterated, straight-forward knowledge about Afrikan culture and traditions. School never taught me, my family, in all their great works and well doing, never totally exposed me to these truths.
When I moved to New York, I met and embraced elders that amazed me. Elders who not just talked a good talk, but who walked in pride and confidence of who they are....free of european standards and educational expectation, although most did, infact, have "higher" degrees from american or european institutions.
In my journey, I also met great Sistas, my contemporaries, who walked with me on my journey to a natural life, holistic healing, and reclaiming of our Afrikan selves. One of these Sistas, who has become a very good friend and sister, is Monique. We first met when I was not with child. We shared our ideals about a cohesive, functional community which nurtured our Afrikan selves, assisted in the growth of our children and the instillation of everlasting values. When I became pregnant with my first child, we became even closer. She became my confidant, an older sister providing guidance and sharing special moments. She already had two children by natural birth and my goal was to do the same with my children.
As Monique and I journey together, we have decided that the knowledge and support that we share with each other would be a great asset to the rest of our sister community. We would like to share the information we have and the information that other sisters have about the journey through motherhood and through life, in a natural and cultural context. There is a new generation of mothers, seeking the Truth for our children, seeking the acceptance of our Roots. Join us on this amazing journey....Join us in this Functional Sisterhood
